At VISET Namibia, our programmes are designed to empower informal economy workers, strengthen their voices in policy spaces, and promote inclusive urban development.
Through targeted interventions, research, advocacy, and partnerships, we help traders move from survivalist livelihoods to sustainable and growth-oriented enterprises.
We advocate for the rights and recognition of informal workers in Namibia’s policy and legislative frameworks. Our advocacy initiatives ensure that street vendors, market traders, and other informal economy actors are included in economic planning, local by-laws, and development strategies that affect their daily lives. We engage with government ministries, municipalities, and civil society to influence fair and inclusive policy reform.
This programme focuses on empowering informal traders through education and skills development. We organize workshops and training sessions in areas such as: Business management and financial literacy Leadership and negotiation skills Health, safety, and environmental awareness Understanding rights and responsibilities under local regulations By strengthening traders’ capacity, we help them improve their livelihoods and operate with greater confidence and sustainability.
We believe in evidence-based action. Our research programmes collect and analyze data on the informal economy to identify challenges, opportunities, and policy gaps. This data drives our advocacy efforts and informs government and partner institutions on how best to support informal workers.
We work with local authorities and urban planners to create inclusive, safe, and dignified trading spaces. Our infrastructure programme promotes: Designated trading zones Access to water, sanitation, and waste facilities Secure storage and shelter Improved mobility and accessibility for traders and customers These initiatives contribute to cleaner, safer, and more vibrant urban environments.
Recognizing that many informal workers are women and youth, this programme ensures that all interventions are inclusive and equitable. We advocate for gender-sensitive policies, equal opportunities, and leadership roles for women in the informal economy — promoting social justice and empowerment at every level.
We collaborate with government institutions, development partners, and community organizations to amplify impact and build shared solutions. Through networks and coalitions, VISET Namibia creates platforms for dialogue, learning, and collective action that strengthen the informal economy’s contribution to national growth. Our
