what we do

Viset Namibia

At VISET Namibia, we champion the rights, recognition, and advancement of informal economy workers through evidence-based action, advocacy, and strategic partnerships. Our programs are designed to empower traders, improve working conditions, and influence inclusive urban and economic policies across Namibia.

Research

We conduct in-depth investigations to understand the realities of informal workers, including their challenges, opportunities, and contributions to Namibia’s economy. Our research informs policy advocacy, supports evidence-based decision-making, and strengthens the visibility of the informal sector within national and local development agendas.

Advocacy and Policy Engagement

We advocate for the inclusion of informal traders in public policy, urban planning, and economic decision-making. Through dialogue with government, municipalities, and civil society, we push for fair regulations, supportive by-laws, and recognition of the informal sector as a key player in national development.

Capacity Building and Support Services

We provide training, mentorship, and development programs that equip informal workers with essential skills in business management, leadership, and financial literacy. Our support services also connect traders with policymakers and development partners, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.

Infrastructure Development

We promote inclusive and sustainable urban planning by recommending practical ways to integrate informal trading spaces into city designs. Our work focuses on improving access to basic infrastructure such as water, sanitation, storage, and designated vending areas, fostering dignity, safety, and productivity.

Data Collection and Knowledge Management

We gather, analyze, and use data from the informal economy to guide advocacy efforts and program design. This data-driven approach helps identify gaps, monitor progress, and shape policies that support the long-term growth of informal enterprises.

Strategic Partnerships

We collaborate with government bodies, development agencies, and community organizations to strengthen the informal economy’s role in national development. Through these partnerships, we amplify our impact and build sustainable networks that promote economic inclusion and social transformation.
